Frequently Asked Questions
What is included in the rental?
Rental cost includes delivery and pickup within 15 minutes of driving from our location. If you live outside of the service area, we can either meet you at the 15 minute mark of our service area or you can pickup the scale from us. If you prefer to have the scale delivered to your house outside of the service range, a travel fee will be charged.
Do I need a consultation if I rent a scale from HMC?
Anyone is welcome to rent our scales! However, scale rental does not include a personalized care plan for you and your baby. It is very important that you schedule a consultation with one of our IBCLCs or work closely with your pediatrician to understand and adjust your infant’s intake needs. If any feeding questions arise while using the scale, these will not be addressed by our team without a consultation. We will direct you to work with your pediatrician until you can be seen. It is important that you are working with a team of professionals to know if your infant is meeting normal growth milestones. You will need to keep your well-baby visits at your pediatrician; this is not intended to replace any visits.
How do I rent a scale from you?
Please complete our Scale Rental Request Form below! We will respond within 24-48 hours with scale availability. You will receive an email and an invoice to pay. Please note that your rental is only finalized when your payment has been received.
Will insurance cover our scale rental?
Insurance does not normally reimburse for scale rentals. Payment is required before renting.
How long do I need to rent the scale?
Every family has different needs and preferences. Most families don’t need a lactation scale for longer than a month. But some parents wish to extend their time. Please let us know if you are looking to extend your rental. You can request an additional week or an additional month. You are welcome to keep the scale as long as it hasn’t been reserved by another family. Payment will be required before time is extended.
Can I return my scale early?
You are welcome to return your scale early. However, we cannot refund you for a partial rental. We rent by the entire week or month only.
How do I store the scale?
The scale needs to be kept on a flat, stable surface where it isn’t stepped on, jumped on, or dropped. The scale must be kept away from older children, toys, and pets in your home. If the scale is returned to use damaged, the card on file will be charged for the cost of the repair. If the scale is not able to be repaired, you will be charged the purchase price of a new scale.
How do I clean the scale?
We sanitize the scales before and after each rental with Clorox wipes. You are welcome to use gentle cleaning wipes, but request no harsh chemicals be used on the scale. You are welcome to use a baby blanket or purchase chux pads to use with the scale.
